Dance Classes Description



Adult Dance Class (Age: under 35 years).
For those who love to dance and perform. Former dance skills is a requisite. About ¼ of class time is spent on basic skill training and ¾ of class time is spent on rehearsing for events. Students must agree to perform for MB Great Wall Performing Arts’ events.


Basic Dance Skill training: (Ages: 14 and up).
Some basic dance skills required. Intended to those wishing to better understand Chinese classical and folk dance skills, forms and movements. Students are not expected to perform for events.


Chinese Folk Dance (Ages: 3-4 years).
Main objective is to develop children’s interest in Chinese folk dance. Teaching materials guided by Beijing Dance Academy level 3-4 syllabus.


Children's Chinese Folk Dance: (Ages: 5 - 6 years).
Main objective is to develop children’s interest in Chinese folk dance. Teaching materials guided by Beijing Dance Academy level 3-4 syllabus.


Children's Chinese Folk Dance: (Ages: 7 - 8 years).
Building further on basic training, this class will teach students a deeper understanding of Chinese folk dance. Students are expected to perform at the Chinese New Year Show. Teaching materials guided by the Beijing Dance Academy level 5-6 syllabus.


Youth Chinese Folk dance (Ages 9 - 13 years).
In addition to basic training, this class will enable students to perform at the intermediate level. Students are expected to perform at the Chinese New Year Show. Teaching materials guided by the Beijing Dance Academy 7-8-level syllabus.


Youth Chinese Dance Class: (Ages 14 - 18 Years).
Students in this class will practice the more advanced skills of Chinese Folk Dance. Students are expected to perform at the New Year show, participate in dance competitions, and be involved in the summer camp organized by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office. Teaching materials guided by the Beijing Dance Academy 9-10 level syllabus.


Solo, Duet, Small Group Class:
Individuals may request instruction on a one-on-one basis or with a small group. You may be requested to perform in GW events throughout the year by the instructor.


Zumba Fitness Class:
Zumba is a popular aerobic dance. It has a Latin origin and is happy, exciting and romantic. Burn fat and achieve fitness! No dance skills required.


Jazz:
A most loved form of art. The “New Jazz” taught in this class will include some hip-hop elements to achieve the desired expression.


Wu Shu (Kung Fu):
Basic Chinese Kung Fu movements and forms. Objectives include fitness, strength and self-defence.


Hip Hop:
In this Hip Hop Class you will learn choreography, the basics of B-Boying/B-Girling, Locking, Popping, Tutting, and Housing. You will experiment with rhythm, style, and personality.


Chinese Folk Dance (Adults): For ages 35 and up:
Some basic knowledge required. For those who wish to learn more about Chinese Folk Dance. Performance for events is voluntary.


Rehearsal Class:
Highly stimulating and substantial choreographies will be selected by the instructor.
This class is designed for high-calibre students who will focus on preparing for public performances during New Year and Moon Festival, etc.
Students may enroll by teacher invitation only.


Basic Skills Class:
Designed to improve basic dance skills of students and to prepare them for more advanced classes.
Syllabus includes Chinese folk dances from various minor culture groups.
Part of the class will include teacher training and the class is aimed at future teachers.


Ballet Physique Class:
Employing basic ballet positions and skills, this class will train students to acquire proper posture, positions and physique.
Classical ballet skills will be taught and practiced to further whet the appetite of the students towards ballet.
Health objectives include weight control, fitness, aerobic exercise and enhancing self-esteem.
